During the summer of 2019, Paris experienced a severe heatwave (“canicule” in French) and I was there for one hot poetry reading. This image was captured in my Paris hotel when the sun’s rays were streaking through the window in a striking manner. The beam of sunlight is juxtaposed with the artificial light in the hallway, which created pools of brilliant colors.
