“Anti-Art”, color photo on paper, Tours, France 2018, 70 x 50 cm, price upon request Photography

I took notice of a wall where the shop owner had painted out the graffiti, which isn’t a usual sight in France. Typically, the graffiti is left in place because it is considered art in France (which, of course, it can be!). Back to the painted out graffiti, I was intrigued by the repeat and rhythm of the black brush strokes covering up the graffiti. I think of this piece as ‘Anti-art’ since the graffiti was painted out. As a case in point, the word “graffiti” contains the word “art”.
