Smokin’ Drinkin’ Jesus

Gotta love France in that the French are huge fans of rich food, tobacco (still!) and alcohol (mostly wine and weird liqueurs like Pastis, in the absence of Absinthe).  ‘Tabac & Bar’ go together like peanut butter and jelly on white — or apple pie with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.  You can buy a box of smokes and drink all in the same place in a convivial setting.  There are also shops subtitled “Tabac, Bar and Pain”…of course, “pain” in French is bread.  There must be a connection here, if you must connect the dots.  Pretty much smoking, drinking and eating bread.  All that one needs.  Really.  Truly.  I’ve been following these signs all of my life and look where it’s got me.  Me in a smoke-filled room with a glass of red wine in my hand with a cross around my neck in a chokehold somewhere in France.
